Walter Schreurs

Walter "Wally" D. Schreurs, age 76, of Hammond, IN, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022.

Walter is survived by his wife of 25 years, Debra L. Schreurs (nee Gregory); children: Sherry Young, Kenneth (Jenn) Young, Annette (Brian) Wilcox and Richard Schreurs; grandchildren: Angel, Jazmine, Tory, Tony, JJ, Alexis, and one on their way, due July 2022.  Walter was preceded in passing by his parents: Gerrit and Mary Schreurs; sisters: Dorothy, Vivian and Sandy; dog, Jozie.

Wally was born on February 17, 1945, in Chicago, IL to Gerrit and Mary Schreurs.  He graduated from Chicago Vocational School then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.  After his Honorable Discharge, he began his career as a Millwright with Acme Steel in Riverdale, IL, and retired after 35 years of dedicated service.  He was an American Legion Member of Hammond Post 168.  Wally was an avid Baseball Card collector; he loved Cookouts and BBQ's and was always looking forward to the yearly trips to the Hammond Casino.  He had a passion for gardening and the whole backyard was always adorned with flowers.  What Wally loved most of all was simply being home surrounded by his loving family.  He earned his title of "Papa" through his unconditional love for his grandchildren.
