Ofelia M. Navarro

Ofelia Navarro, age 78, of Hammond, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

She is preceded in passing by her husband of 50 years, Antonio Navarro; her parents: Julio and Ma. Carmen Muñoz; and her 4 siblings.

 Left to cherish her memory are her children: Celia (James) Mitchell, Gerardo (Maria) Navarro, Antonio Jr. (Claudia) Navarro, Carmen (Dale) Garza, Elena (Jorge) Figueroa, Sergio (Margaret) Navarro, and Amanda (José) Jaramillo; numerous grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 10:00 AM DIRECTLY at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church located at 3510 Deodar Street, East Chicago, IN with Fr. Diego Flores officiating. A brief visitation will take place from 9:30 AM until time of service at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at St. John-St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Hammond.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at LaHayne Funeral Home located at 6955 Southeastern Avenue, Hammond.

Ofelia was a God-fearing woman who held on strongly to her faith.  She was an extremely hard-working woman, from raising a large family to working as a seamstress. Ofelia never fell short on exhibiting her love to family and friends.  She loved to give gifts and most often the recipient would know it came from JCPenney’s, as she was their #1 customer.  She loved gardening and had a “green thumb”, enjoyed dancing and had a sense of humor like no other.  Her kindness was often displayed through helping her neighbors.  Above all else she was a very family-oriented woman and was the peace maker, and her love shined through in her amazing cooking.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
