Lavern L. "Larry" Jackson, age 80, of Hammond, IN passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009 at his home. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Yvonne; his 5 daughters, Beatryce (Joe) Parks, Donna (John) Jansen, Joanne Jackson, Beverly Sajdyk and Patricia Castillo; 7 grandchildren, Kristy Sajdyk, Tiffany (Rob) Hansen, Doug Sajdyk, Alexis Ceperich, Rick Elder, Joey La Bresh, and Donnie Parks; 2 great grandchildren, Paityn and Luke Hansen; brother, Harry (Edna) Jackson; sister-in-law, Jean Jackson; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Sadie Jackson, 2 brothers, Ralph (Tootsie) and Ernest Jackson, and his son, Richard L. Jackson.
Larry worked for the IHB Railroad for 32 years as a tariff clerk. He was in the U. S. Navy from 1947-1950. Larry was President and Secretary of the Railway and Airline Clerks Union, Local # 357 and past President of the Credit Union. He was Past Master of Indiana Harbor Lodge # 686 F. & A. M. of Highland, IN, and a member of Orak Temple of Michigan City, IN, Ancient and Accepted Rite of South Bend, IN, Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Hammond Moose Lodge # 570, Hammond York Rite, RAH-EESE Orak Shrine, Railway Transportation Square Club, American Legion Maywood Post # 126 of Hammond, IN , Maywood Civic Club and Woodmar United Methodist Church.
Services will be held Friday, March 27, 2009 at LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN beginning at 12:30 PM by Indiana Harbor Lodge #686 F. & A.M. followed by American Legion Maywood Post #126 at 12:45. Rev. Robert Raschka of Woodmar United Methodist Church will conduct the funeral services at 1 PM. He will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday morning from 10 AM until time of services.
