Kathleen "Kathy" M. (Demas) Holmes

Kathleen "Kathy" M. Holmes nee Demas, age 72, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph W. Holmes; son, Christopher Holmes; siblings: Donna Excell-Steffel, Carolyn Slade nee Excell, Ellen Excell, Heather Washburn nee Hunter, Debra Mangerson nee Demas, and Peggy Excell; aunt of many nieces and nephews; numerous family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Donald W. Demas and Delores T. Excell nee Payonk.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022, at 7:00 pm at LaHayne Funeral Home, located at 6955 Southeastern Avenue, Hammond, Indiana with Reverend Stanley J. Dominik officiating, Private inurnment will follow at Lee Township Cemetery in Grand Junction, Michigan.

Friends may meet with the family on Friday, July 22, 2022, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at LaHayne Funeral Home.

Kathy graduated from Clark High School in Whiting. After entering the work force as an esthetician, she settled on a career that embraced one of her great passions, Music. Throughout her life she had several constants, among which music was one. She worked in the Music Department at The University of Chicago for 40 years, retiring in 2011. The relationships she made there among students, faculty and administration were many and deep. At home, music was frequently playing, and she could be found singing at any given time.

Kathy was also highly passionate about her family, as her son, husband, siblings and their children, cousins, aunts and uncles can attest. She was always the first to reach out to any of them in time of need or to celebrate an achievement. One would find her happiest in a gathering of her friends and family. A more kind, loyal friend or family member you would be hard pressed to find.

She loved to travel, and would take trips to the mountains, or the lakes or to visit family from out of state. There was always music, laughter and shopping involved as she and her travel companions explored or just relaxed at their destination.
