George Maschenik, age 86, of Hammond, IN passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2009. He is survived by 2 daughters, Janice L. (Joseph) Seliga of Plymouth, IN and Joan L. (David) Dumler of Hobart, IN; 3 grandchildren, Jill (Paul) Thompson of Plymouth, IN, Erin Modrowski of Lansing, MI, and Allan Dumler of Hobart, IN; 2 great granddaughters, Paige and Alexandria; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, parents, Paul and Mary Maschenik, and 2 brothers, John and Paul Maschenik.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 1, 2009 at 11:30 AM from LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN and 12 Noon Mass of Christian Burial from St. John Bosco Church, 7113 Columbia Ave., Hammond, IN with Rev. Richard Orlinski officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Sunday from 2-6 PM at the funeral home. A Prayer Service will be held Sunday at 5:30 PM at the funeral home.
George was a lifetime resident of this area and a member of St. John Bosco Church of Hammond, IN, the I. O. O. F., Senior Olympics, and the Hammond Civic Center where he participated in their activities. He was a retired Mason/Bricklayer at U.S. Steel Co in Gary, IN and a fisherman, bowler and an avid Cubs Fan. George served in the Army Air Corps during WW 2 with the 418th Night Fighter Squadron in the Pacific campaign and was a member of American Legion Calumet Memorial Post # 330 of Calumet City, IL who will conduct Post Everlasting Services at the funeral home Sunday at 5 PM.
