Florence married the boy next door who was her best friend’s big brother in 1949. She remained married to her beloved Joe for 57 years. Together they raised their five children in a loving and happy home. Once the children were all in school, she went to work at the Woodmar Child Development Center, where she worked until her retirement. She eventually rose to the position of Director of the center. Under her guidance, it became one of the most respected daycare centers and in the region. While still raising her children and working full time, she also enrolled in Purdue University, where she obtained her degree in Early Childhood Education. Florence was a devoted parishioner of St. John Bosco Parish since childhood. Throughout the years she was actively involved in parish life. Her contributions included many years as the President of the St. John Bosco School Board, and member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a catechist, leading the Liturgy of the Word for Children and Generations of Faith. Florence was honored to be a Eucharistic Minister. She also donated her time and artistic talent by creating the Risen Christ, which was displayed at Church each Easter and the Welcoming Christ which was hung in the school cafeteria. Florence was an exceptional artist. She always said that her talent was a gift from God. She enjoyed painting portraits, flowers, and animals. Her many other interests included gardening, sewing, and reading. She most loved being surrounded by her family and was especially happy sitting on her deck admiring the beauty of her yard. Everyone who met her loved Florence. Those who spent time with her felt that she brightened their day with her kindness and loving heart. She will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the St. John Bosco St. Vincent DePaul Society.
