Donnis S. Brentlinger, age 81, of Highland, IN, formerly of East Chicago, IN, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Valerie J. (Olund) Brentlinger; 2 sisters, Phyllis (late Edwin) Patterson of Grandville, MI and Ellyn Lou (late Wyatte) Foard of Ducula, GA; nephews, Tim and Donn Patterson; nieces, Ashley Patterson, Debra Sell, and Leslie Deal; cousin, Tedd and Peggy Smith of Midlothian, VA; dear friends, Nancy and Gene Kuklinski of Highland, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Hubert Brentlinger, and in-laws, Molly and Rudy Olund.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 12 Noon from LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN with Revd, Roger Storms officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
Don was a lifetime resident of this area, a 1946 graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt High School and attended Michigan State University. He served in the occupational forces in Japan after World War 2. Don was a former employee of Edward Valve Co, where he was a precision machinist and made parts for the first Nuclear Submarine. He taught machine shop at East Chicago Roosevelt High School and the De La Garza Vocational Center before retiring from the school city of East Chicago in 1982.
