Dean "Scott" Bates Obituary

Dean "Scott" Bates, age 54, passed away in his home Saturday, December 19, 2020 in Hammond, Indiana.  Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Shirley J. Bates nee Moran; his siblings, Diane (Dan) Hodge of Rensselaer, Indiana, Dawn Bates of Colorado, Chad Bates of Hammond, Indiana; uncle, George Bates; aunt, Sandra (late Fred) Urbanski; nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Katrina, Christina and Jessie; great nieces, Nevaeh, Paityn and Kylee.  Scott was preceded in passing by his father, John Bates Sr. and his brother, John Bates Jr.

Scott was a 1985 graduate of Highland High School.  He was an avid bears fan.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing and music.  Scott loved arm wrestling, which led him to try out for the movie "Over the Top".

Scott would like you to know that his work here is done. He received a call (a sort of an offer you can't refuse) for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus and a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time. Job security is 110 percent. His mission takes him to a place where he will be the life of the party. You will find him laughing and visiting with family and friends, watching the Bears football game on the big screen and having a cold beer. A good time is guaranteed! Food is delicious and you never gain an ounce. Scott has left detailed instructions for his family and friends to celebrate his mission here, which now has been completed.

Scott, you will be missed.
