Bob Ray "Bud" Carlson

Bob Ray "Bud" Carlson, age 89, US Army National Guard Veteran, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2020.

Beloved husband for 67 years to Melva Jean Carlson nee Purkey. Loving father of Karl R. (Char) Carlson, Roxane VanTil, Glen E. (Lois) Carlson, Dawn L. (Clifford) Haring and Bonnie J. (James) Bruce. Devoted brother of Shirley (late Stan) Ignell. Proud grandfather of 11. Dearest great-grandfather of 10 and Cherished great-great-grandfather of 2. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Ray O. and Bonnie Carlson nee Hollingsworth.

Bob was a 1948 graduate of CVS High School in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating, he was drafted into the Army National Guard where he reenlisted for a second tour. When he returned to civilian duties, he started working at the Steel Mills where the first Mill he worked at went on strike after 60 days. He then went to Interlake Steel where he started as an electrician and retired as a foreman. Bob met Melva Jean, the love of his life at the Roller Dome in Hammond, Indiana. He was with her ever since. Bob enjoyed woodwork, building and photography. He was a member of the Whiting Lodge No. 613 F. & A.M. and the Order of the Amaranth. He liked dogs, cats and baby birds. Bob would travel across the USA with Melva Jean in their Winnebago.

A Memorial Service for Bob and Melva Jean will take place on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 7:00 PM at LaHayne Funeral Home 6955 Southeastern Avenue Hammond, IN 46324 with Pastor Donald Stock officiating. The Order of the Amaranth will also be leading a prayer during service time.  Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, July 30, 2021 from 4:00 PM until the time of Service at 7:00 PM.  Private burial with take place at a later date.
