William A. Erb, age 100, of Hammond, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 with his family by his side. He was born on November 16, 1914 in Hammond, IN to Joseph and Viola Erb nee Wilson.
Loving father of David (Pam) Erb, Linda (Walter) Wozniak, Elizabeth Michel, and Thomas (Nancy) Erb. Proud grandfather of 16. Dearest great-grandfather of 17.
Preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Marjorie M. Erb nee Anderson and his sons, William (Donna) Erb and Timothy (Joyce) Erb.
William was a Veteran of the USMC (1935 – 1941). He worked as a shipper at Inland Steel for over 42 years. He also served as a Eucharistic minister and held various offices in the Senior Citizens group at St. John Bosco Church. William loved gardening and was an avid stamp collector and a member of the Calumet Area Stamp Club, but most of all his greatest joy was his wife and family.
Lying in State Saturday, January 03, 2015 at 12 Noon until time of Mass at 12:30 PM at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 7113 Columbia Ave, Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the Family on Friday, Janaury 02, 2015 from 3 PM until 8 PM at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME . Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or St. John Bosco Church. For further information regarding services, please contact LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME at 219/ 845-3600.
