Walter Joseph Henry Jakubas, JR, age 99, of Hammond, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014. Devoted Son of the late Wladptors "Walter" Joseph Jakubas I and the late Francis Jakubas nee Jendrzejewska Beloved Husband of the late Helen Jakubas nee Podgorski and the late Lydia L. Jakubas nee Luebcke. Loving Father of Bernice "Bunny" (Richard "Dick") Goodlander of Merrillville Dr. Walter (Mary Kellogg) Jakubas of Hampden, Maine, and Christine "Chris" (Robert "Bob") Strauch of Griffith. Cherished Brother of Helen (late Robert) Mannion of Munster, Irene (Raymond "Ray") Fary of Munster, and late Jeannette Jakubas. Proud Grandfather of Melanie Ledgerton, Mark (Kris) Goodlander, Cindy (Mike) Hall, Colleen (Jason) Haage, and Brenton (Amber) Strauch. Dearest Great-Grandfather of Sarah (Zak) Swearengin, Lacey Hall, Daniel Goodlander, Miles Hall, Darrien Goodlander, and Emma Haage Great-Great-Grandfather of Nathanial Swearengin, Aubrey Swearengin, Liam Swearengin, Conner Swearengin, and Luke Bobb5. Loving Uncle of numerous Nieces and Nephews. Fond Brother-in-law of the late Wilfrted (the late Anne) Luebcke, Norbert Luebcke, the late Lorraine Wells, and Corky (the late Ruzy Walter was born on December 01, 1914 in West Hammond now known as Calumet City and was a lifelong resident of the Hammond area and formerly of Hartsfield Village in Munster. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Munster and former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hammond. He retired after 35 years from General American Transportation Co. After retiring, Walter worked at Sterns / Woodmar Hardware until they closed. Funeral Services Friday, January 17, 2014 at 10:30 AM at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond with Rev. Donald Stock officiating. Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 2 PM until 8 PM at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond.
