Virginia Ann O'Leary nee Chandler, age 78, US Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War, of Hammond, passed away Friday, November 20, 2015.
Loving mother of David (Beverley) Holeman, Richard (Jenny Jarvey) Holeman, and Debra (David) Harding. Proud grandmother of Derrick (Caitlin) Holeman, Christopher (Stephanie) Holeman, Elizabeth Harding, and Kathryn "Katie" (David) Simmonetti. Dearest great-grandmother of Hayden Holeman. Preceded in death by her husband John D. O'Leary and her parents Rollin R. and Irma I. Chandler nee Hinrichs, and her brother Richard (Karen) Chandler.
Virginia was a life member, the former President of the Ladies Auxiliary, the former Secretary, the former Chaplin with the VFW Lake Station Post 9323. She was the past District Chaplain with the War Mothers Unit 21. She was also a former member, the former Secretary, and the former Chaplin with the American Legion Lake Station Post 100. Virginia retired in 1985 from Northwest Indiana VNA and worked 8 years as a Home Health Aid. She volunteered at the Veteran Home in West Lafayeete. She was a longtime member of the First United Evangelical Lutheran Church. Virginia was loved by many and will be missed by more.
Friends are invited to celebrate Virginia's life with the family on Monday, November 23, 2015 from 4 PM until 8 PM at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN. Lying in State Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 10 AM until time of Service at 11 AM at First United Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6705 Hohman Ave., Hammond with Dr. Bassam Abdallah, Pastor officiating. Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. In lieu of flowers, memorials to First United Lutheran Church or to the VA will be appreciated.
