Obituary

Thomas N. Vahey, Sr, age 93, US Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient of WWII, of Hammond, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, March 16, 2013. Beloved Husband for 46 years to the late Helen R. Vahey nee Kuric. Loving Father of Thomas (Terri) Vahey, Jr and Carol Vahey. Preceded in death his Brothers and Sister Jack Vahey, Bill Vahey, and Helen Vahey Deak. Fond Uncle of Karl Deak and his family and many other Nieces and Nephews. Tom was a lifelong area resident and graduated from East Chicago Roosevelt High. He was retired after 40 years with Blaw-Knox Foundry. He was a 58 year member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church. He was a member of the Hammond Civic Center Senior Citizens Group for many years, and was a recipient of many Senior Citizen Olympic Gold Medals. Tom was an avid White Sox fan. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, March 22, 2013 from 4 PM until 8 PM (Central Time) at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN. Funeral Service Saturday at 9:15 AM from LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME to St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 7113 Columbia Ave., Hammond for a Mass with Rev. Richard Orlinski, Pastor officiating. Interment St. John Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John Bosco Catholic Church or to the Hospice of the Calumet Area.
