Thomas N. Vahey, Sr, age 93, US Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient of WWII, of Hammond, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, March 16, 2013. Beloved Husband for 46 years to the late Helen R. Vahey nee Kuric. Loving Father of Thomas (Terri) Vahey, Jr and Carol Vahey. Preceded in death his Brothers and Sister Jack Vahey, Bill Vahey, and Helen Vahey Deak. Fond Uncle of Karl Deak and his family and many other Nieces and Nephews. Tom was a lifelong area resident and graduated from East Chicago Roosevelt High. He was retired after 40 years with Blaw-Knox Foundry. He was a 58 year member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church. He was a member of the Hammond Civic Center Senior Citizens Group for many years, and was a recipient of many Senior Citizen Olympic Gold Medals. Tom was an avid White Sox fan.
