Steven "Steve" M. Russell, age 55, of Hammond, Indiana passed suddenly Saturday, August 13, 2016. Loving son of Freddie K. Russell and Sharon R. Russell nee Hudspeth of Hammond, Indiana. Beloved brother of Bobby (Dody) Russell of Griffith, Indiana, Carl (Colleen) Russell of Dyer, Indiana, Richard (Brenda) Russell of Griffith, Indiana, and Dennis (Mary) Russell of Highland, Indiana. Fond uncle of Kyle (Nicolle) Krause of Valparaiso, Indiana, Kim Russell, Amy Russell, and Ben Russell, all of Griffith, Indiana, and Nicole Russell and Rachel Russell all of Highland, Indiana. Loyal to his cats Sally and Molly. Steve was a lifelong resident of Hammond and a 1979 graduate of Hammond Gavit HS. He was employed as an Operating Engineer, Local 399, for Global Water Technology, Inc. at the Horseshoe Casino Hammond. He was an avid military history buff, a staunch supporter of veteran's associations and proud of his southern ancestry. Steve also was a lover of the outdoors and relished the wonders of nature. Steve was a most generous and loving son, brother, uncle and, friend who made an immense impact on all he met. He was immensely proud of his nephews and nieces and took great joy in watching them grow. His kindness to friends, as well as to those he just met, was boundless and infectious. He touched the lives of all who had the good fortune to cross paths with him. Steve was loved by many and will be missed by more.
