Silas E. Jones, age 88, US Army Veteran of WWII, of Hammond, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Beloved husband for 65 years to Agnes E. Jones nee Cole. Loving father of Betty (Victor) Segally, William (Linda) Jones, Barbara (James) Lackey, John (Martha) Jones, and Bonita Smulski Devoted brother of Lola Mae Terry Proud grandpa of 9. Treasured great-grandpa of 11. Preceded in death by his parents, one son, one grandson, and four brothers Silas was the recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star during his time in the Army. He was retired from Jones & Laughlin (Arcelor Mittal). He was a member of the Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church and of the American Legion Hammond Victory Post 168.
