Obituary

Sharon L. Nelson nee Schroeder, age 77, of Calumet City, Illinois, passed on Saturday, April 18, 2020. Beloved wife of Gary L. Nelson.

Loving mother of Lori (Amy) Nelson, David (Doribell) Nelson, Amy (Jim) Kent, Paul (Valerie) Nelson and Joe (Roxanna) Nelson. Proud grandmother of Adam Dudley, Hannah Kent, David (Karen) Kuipers, Daniel (Cheli) Kuipers, Sara (Mario) Hernandez, Spencer Nelson, Joshua Nelson, Asher Nelson, Autumn Nelson and Alayna Nelson. Dearest great-grandmother of Caleb, Noah, April and Jackson. Fond aunt of Cindy Companik, Vicki Anello, Mary Fuchs, Jim Hill, John Hill, Scott Czlonka and Jeff Ralph. Devoted sister-in-law of Phil Ralph.

Preceded in death by her parents John and Gertrude Schroeder, her sisters Jane Ralph and Lillian Hill and her nephew Rod Czlonka.

Sharon passed away at home surrounded by the family that meant so much to her and will be her legacy – that is exactly how she wanted it. She was a lifetime resident of Calumet City and married her high school sweetheart from TFN, Gary. They have been married for 57 years. She enjoyed fishing and passed that passion down to her children – she insisted on only using a cane pole – that was the only way to really fish. Her love for Pickerel Lake Wisconsin was contagious and anyone who has spent time there can attest to that. She loved playing poker and scrabble, but sometimes we had to get the timer out for Scrabble! She didn't have a career outside of the home, her entire life was family ... taking care of, and loving her children and grand children with her ever present sense of humor. She didn't have many material possessions, but her love for family and friends was vast. Last, but not least, was her passion for Jesus. Most of her family would say she is the reason they have a relationship with the Lord today. She could watch Jimmy Swaggert sermons for hours and absolutely loved the music they played – her favorite being "The Lighthouse". She dedicated her life to the raising of her family and will be deeply missed.
