Virginia I. Shantz 88, of Hammond passed away peacefully Saturday, March 19, 2011. Virginia was born on July 28, 1922 in Chicago, IL. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (nee Eisen) Taylor; Sons, John (Debbie) Eisen, William (Betty) Shantz, And Glen Shantz, Twelve grandchildren, Six great grandchildren, One sister and several nieces and nephews. Virginia played a mean game of cribbage and loved to teach anyone who would play with her. She and her husband Bob loved to square dance with friends. She trained to be a counselor and teacher of unity and metaphysical philosophy and used her knowledge to mentor and provide support to others in need. Virginia's openness to discuss all ideas and her thoughtful insight created a basis for friendship that will never be replaced. An avid reader, she shared her books, and fun of reading with all her family. A short visitation will be held at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 5-8 pm. A private memorial service will be held later in the spring.
