Salvador Luna Salazar, age 84 of Chicago/Hegewisch passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021.

Salvador is survived by his wife, Manuela Cortes Diaz; children: Luz Maria (Harold) Hayes, Felipa Huels, Salvador (Lilliana) Luna, Jr., Lou (Armida) Luna, Lety (Mike) Huels, Imelda (Miguel) Pimentel, Jose Luis (Michelle) Luna, Juan Luis (Lupe) Luna, Ruben (Cynthia) Luna and Raul (Veronica) Luna; grandchildren: Julían ,Marc, Eric, Erica, Alec, Christian, Cruz, Carlos, Timmy, Abby, Jessie, Santiago, Arian, Isaac, Monica, Mallory, Marissa, Marco, Adalia, Rubén Jr., Allysa, Antonio; great grandchildren: Kaydence and Andrea; siblings: Maria (Nicolas) Gomez, Emilia (Atilano) Salazar, Margarita (Ignacio) Salazar, Basilio Luna and Reynaldo (Elena) Luna; many nieces and nephews.  Salvador was preceded in passing by his first wife, Maria Guadalupe Luna; and his parents, Faustino Luna and Maria Carmen Salazar.

Salvador retired in 2002 from multiple meat packing companies.  He belonged to UFCW Local 1546.  He used to like to take walks throughout the neighborhood.  Salvador and Manuela considered themselves to be "foodies", always going out to eat.  He was proud of his earned title of 'Papa".  Salvador had a love for sports and enjoyed baseball, soccer and boxing.  The family always looked forward to their many trips to Mexico to visit with relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Saint Mary Catholic Church 812 W. 144th Street, East Chicago, IN 46312 with Rev Nestor A. Varon AIC officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL.  Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at LaHayne Funeral Home 6955 Southeastern Avenue Hammond, IN 46324.  It is recommended that visitors wear masks and practice social distancing.
