Ruth W. Powell, age 87, of Munster, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012. Devoted daughter of the late Max E. and the late Gertrude (Berg) Rose; Beloved wife for 52 years of Arthur A. Powell; Loving mother of Kenneth A. Powell and Linda M. (Raymond) Smejek; Proud grandmother of Clint, Zachary, Jacob, Luke, and Max Smejek; Cherished sister of the late Arnold M. (June E.) Rose. Ruth's Christian faith was the ground of her being, and she was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. For more than 40 years she sang in the chorus, octets, and quartets of the Calumet Corner Chapter of Sweet Adelines. Private services were held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8601 Harrison Ave., Munster, with Dr. Eric C. Stumpf officiating. Interment was at Concordia Cemetery, Hammond.
