Robert E. Williams, age 79, of Hammond, IN passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jewel; 1 daughter, Deborah (John) Yager of Munster, IN; 1 grandson, Brandon Yager of Munster, IN; 2 brothers, Oscar (Carol) Williams and Byrd Williams, both of Hudson, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Byrd and Vivian Williams. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 10 AM from LaHayne Funeral Home 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN with Rev. John Kalicky, C. PP. S. officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Garfield Lodge # 569 F. & A.M. will conduct memorial services at 7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Robert was a resident of this area for 55 years, a retired truck driver from Inland Steel Co., and a bus driver for Empress Casino in Hammond. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War, served as a captain of Crime Watch Beat 1 in Hammond, was a Past Master of Garfield Lodge # 569 of Highland, IN.and a member of the York Rite.
