Obituary

Robert "Bob" Kindle, age 96, US Naval Veteran of WWII, of Hammond, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016. Loving father of William L. (Susan) Kindle, Roy D. (Gail) Kindle, Helen Marie (Martin) Waechter, and Susan (Larry) Andrews. Proud grandfather of 14. Dearest great-grandfather of many. Fond uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife Cleta C. Kindle nee Dorris, his son Robert Kindle, JR, his parents Roy D. Kindle and Myrtle M. Kindle nee Buchanan, and his sister Marylee Green. Bob was a 1938 graduate of Hammond High. After High School, Bob joined the US Navy and proudly served on the USS Angler (SS-240) which was a Gato-class submarine in the Pacific and off the coast of Japan during WWII. He was a member of the McKinley Lodge No. 712 F & AM and active with the Hammond Christian Reform Church. Bob retired from Combustion Engineering as a supervisor. He was a huge sports fan, both college and pros, and was thrilled to have finally seen the Chicago Cubs win the World Series. Bob was loved by many and will be missed by more. Family and friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 10:00 AM until time of Service at 12:00 Noon with Pastor John Kostelyk officiating with also a 10:30 AM Masonic Service by McKinley Lodge No. 712 F & AM at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME , 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society Calumet Area.
