Richard "Rick" J. Harter, age 59, US Army Veteran, of Gary, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

Beloved son of Paula (Robert) Champion nee Martinez and the late Richard Martinez. Loving husband of the late Shirley Harter nee Dykstra. Devoted father of Shawnne (Jeff) Oxley, Richard (Cynthia) Harter, and Melissa (Dan) Mata. Cherished brother of Joaquin (Kelly) Martinez, Jim (Ronda) Harter,

the late Lynn Harter, the late Andrew Harter, and the late Jeanie Harter. Proud grandfather of Alisha, Britney, Caylee, Dayton, Kara, Jordan "Boo" Breanna, Madyson, Elana, Daniel, and Lyndsey. Fond uncle of numerous nieces, nephews.

Rick enjoyed riding his motorcycle, shooting pool, playing horse shoes, and poker. He was loved by all and will be missed by more.

Funeral Service will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, June 23, 2014 at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN. Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Family and friends are invited to meet with the family also on Monday from 10 AM until time of Service at 12 Noon.
