Phillip Tanas, Sr., age 59, of Hammond, passed away suddenly Monday, March 20, 2017. Loving husband for 35 years to Cynthia "Cyndee" Tanas nee Hellems. Devoted father of Phillip (Stephenie) Tanas, Jr. and Destiny Tanas. Beloved son of James (Linda) Tanis. Cherished brother of James Patrick (late Mary) Tanas, Deborah Tanas, Robert "Bobby" Tanas, and Thomas "Tommy" (Michelle) Tanas. Dearest brother-in-law of Robert (Janet) Hellems, Linda (Robert) Trinkle, and Theresa Hellems Proud grandfather of Michael, Gweniviere, Jacob, and Jennyfer. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his son Robert Tanas, his mother Caroline Tanis nee O'Neill, his father-in-law Joseph Paul Hellems and his mother-in-law Dolores Hellems nee Badaszewski. Phillip was a graduate of Clark High School in Whiting. He loved fishing and writing songs and poetry for Cyndee and spending time at the casinos. When he was able, Phillip enjoyed riding his Harley. One of his favorite pastimes was going to car dealers and looking at the cars. Phillip was proud of his title of grandpa. He will be greatly missed by his furry friend Vermeer.
