Paula B. Guerrero nee Bermudez, age 84, of Hammond, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016. Loving mother of Ambrose (Terry) Garza, Roy (Sandra) Guerrero, and Margarita Alcantar. Beloved sister of Adela B. "Lala" Barrientos. Proud grandmother and great-grandmother of many. Cherished aunt of numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Roque Bermudez and Margarita Bermudez nee Olvera. her son Leonard "BB" Guerrero, JR, her sister Cornelia "Connie" Hernandez, and her former husband Leonard Guerrero, SR. Paula went to college to become a nurse. After earning her degree, she worked as an nurse at Mercy Hospital in Laredo, Texas and Ohio before settling in Hammond where she started working at St. Margaret Hospital in 1960 until she retired after 32 years of service. While at St. Margaret Hospital, she worked with the late Dr. James Greenwald and Dr. David Ashbach and started the first Dialysis kidney treatment in NW Indiana. Paula then worked for Davita Dialysis for 11 years. Paula was ready 24/7 to help their patients with dialyze. She was a fantastic cook and baker and her lemon meringue pie was the hit of every holiday. Paula was loved by many and will be missed by more. Friends are invited to celebration of Paula's life on Sunday, July 17, 2016 from 1 PM until 7 PM with a 2:30 PM Service with Reverend Eduardo Malagon, Pastor officiating at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME , 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN. Private inurnment will be at 10 AM on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Concordia Cemetery, Hammond, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Paula's Gardens would be appreciated.
