Obituary

Paul H. Estep, born on May 6, 1936, in Tazewell, Tennessee, passed away on July 12, 2026, in Hammond, Indiana. Paul lived a long and fulfilling life, marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his passions.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at LaHayne Funeral Home located at 6955 Southeastern Avenue, Hammond, IN from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Funeral Services will take place on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM at LaHayne Funeral Home with Pastor Brandon Rukes officiating. Burial will immediately follow to Elmwood Cemetery with Funeral Honors.

Paul’s professional journey was spent in the auto body industry. He proudly served as an Auto Body Technician throughout his career, ultimately retiring after over 50 dedicated years from State Auto Body in Hammond, Indiana. His skill and commitment to his craft were well regarded by colleagues and customers alike, leaving a legacy of quality workmanship and integrity.

A proud Army Veteran, Paul brought the values of discipline and service to all that he did, both in his professional life and in his personal relations.

Outside of his work, Paul was known for his deep love of fishing, particularly the cherished annual Canada fishing trips he embarked upon with his family and friends. These excursions were a source of joy and lasting memories for Paul and his loved ones. He also found great enjoyment in spending time in his garage, where his passion for tinkering and handiwork was evident to all who knew him.

Paul’s life was enriched by a large and loving family. He is survived by his daughters: Diane Sims, Paulette Estep, and Kimberly Estep; his grandchildren: Nicole, Hanna, Joey, Kevin, Melissa, Dwayne, Derrick, and Kristi; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and 1 on the way as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

Paul is reunited in memory with those who preceded him in death: his beloved wife of 62 years, Jacqueline Estep; his son, Joey Wurtzbacher; his grandson, Jeremy Sims and granddaughter, Brandie Malerich; his parents: Woods and Nellie Estep; his brothers: Jack (Betty) Estep, James (Evelyn) Estep, Granville Estep, and Kenneth (Shirley) Estep, and his sister, Betty VanZant.

Throughout his ninety years, Paul H. Estep was recognized not only for his professional accomplishments and his military service, but for his devotion to family, enduring friendships, and the many lives he touched with kindness and generosity. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
