Maxie "Grama" Jones nee Barrowman, age 93, of Hammond, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Saturday, August 23, 2014.

The daughter of Charles and Allie (Brickey) Barrowman, Maxie was the last surviving child of thirteen. Born in Banner Virginia, July 27, 1921. Maxie soon married Clarence B. Jones and together they had two children. Donald Alexander and Roberta Lynn. Clarence was killed by a drunk driver leaving her to raise the two young children alone. She moved to the East side of Chicago in the early 1960's to find employment, first in the offices of Illinois Slag Company and then at Stampco Metal Company, where she retired from. She had been a resident of Hammond since the early 1990's.

Maxie now joins her parents, Charles and Allie, alone with her siblings Alex, Charles, William, Jimmy, Bobby, Beulah, Hazel, Catheline, Alma, Edith, June, and Nina, in eternal rest.

Survived and missed deeply by her children Don Sr. (Chris) and Bobbi (late Danny) Barr. Four grandchildren whom she adored, Don Jr. (Gina), Chris (Amy) Jones, Shelly (Tim) Maher, and Kim (Dave) Koryczan. Five great-grandchildren she really found joy in watching grow, Katie and Jenny Koryczan, Savannah and Maxwell Jones, and Joey Rios.

In her retirement she had enjoyed reading, gardening and scratching off lottery tickets. She was always ready for a day out shopping and she also found joy being able to babysit her families animals whenever needed.

She was loved more than words could ever express and will be dearly missed. We love you Grama!

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Sturgill Funeral Home, 310 6th St. NW, Coeburn, Virginia. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 PM in the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Les Ritchie officiating. Burial will follow in the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia.
