Max Eugene Johnson, Jr., age 69, of Hammond, IN, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023, peacefully in his home.

Max was born on June 28, 1954, to Max Johnson, Sr. and Jean Johnson of Hammond, IN.  He is survived by his five children: Abbi Johnson, Kaci (Benjamin) Morris, Jodi (Aaron) Tobias, Kelli Mikuly and Michael (Tiffany) Mikuly; while remaining impactful in the lives of others who he always treated as family.  Max was the grandfather to eight grandchildren: Cory Mikuly, Jessi Tobias, Victor Mikuly, Andrew Tobias, Reilleigh Morris, Adriana Mikuly, Tristan Morris and Emrsyn Mikuly; and a brother to Linda (Herman) Cawthron and Julia (Mark) Hendricks.

Max was preceded in death by both of his parents: Max Johnson, Sr. and Jean Johnson; as well as his brother, Elden Johnson; and his sister, Denise (late John) Gallo.

Max spent his life working on vehicles and completing repairs and projects in construction.  He would often lend his expertise to family, friends and neighbors in need of repairs and assistance.  After his retirement in 2016, Max enjoyed visiting the Casino and working on small projects.

A Memorial Service will be held at LaHayne Funeral Home located at 6955 Southeastern Avenue, Hammond, IN 46324 on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 1:00 PM with Pastor Brandon Rukes officiating.  Friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00.
