Marshall E. Walters, age 86, US Air Force Veteran, of Lowell, formerly of Hammond, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016. Beloved husband for 58 years to the late Nora "Ruth" Walters nee Pettus. Loving father of Debra (Dave) Niezgoda and Marsha (Paul) Fitzpatrick. Cherished brother of Willie (Linda) Walters of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Margie (the late Terry) Perry of Keystone Heights, Florida, and Dorothy Mashburn of Loretto, Tennessee. Proud grandfather of John A. Smriga, III, Tina Fitzpatrick, and Thomas Fitzpatrick. Dearest Great-Grandfather of Veronica Klug. Fond uncle of many Nieces and Nephews. Marshall loved going to Country and Blue Grass Music Festivals where he would square dance and clog to the fiddle music with his wife Ruth. He was a longtime member of Fairmeadow Community Church in Munster and Living Grace Church of the Nazarene in Merrillville. He belonged to the McKinley Lodge No. 712 F & AM, the Shriners, and the American Legion Hammond Victory Post 168. In the words of Marshall in regards to his beloved Ruth, I was with you until the very end and when my time comes, I will be a star in the sky along with yours. Family and friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Masonic Service by McKinley Lodge No. 712 F & AM at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME , 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond. Service will be held on Saturday, October 01, 2016 at 11:00 AM at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME . Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond.
