Maria Sanchez, age 68, of East Chicago, IN, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025.

Maria is survived by her children: Maria Mercedez (Al) Taylor and Jose M. (Fiancée, Elizabeth Vega) Mena, Jr.; grandchildren: Julian Taylor, Alyanna Taylor, Aleya Taylor, Jose Mena III, Josmarie Mena, Alondra Vega and Hector Diaz, Jr.; sister, Blanca Rivera; brothers: Dirberto (Loida) Sanchez, Juan Vargas, David (Sonia) Sanchez and Edwardo Sanchez; God-Children: Catalina Chamorro, Alexis Roldan, Amarilys Berrien, Divyne Ryan, William Lopez, Danny Aponte and Angel Feliciano; 23 nieces and nephews and many beloved cousins. She was preceded in passing by her parents: Asuncion Sanchez and Candida Rivera; brothers Edwin Sanchez and Asuncion Sanchez, Jr.

A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, 3:00 PM at LaHayne Funeral Home located at 6955 Southeastern Avenue, Hammond, IN.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1:00 PM until time of service at 3:00.

Maria, lovingly known as "Tita" to all who knew her, was a remarkable and caring woman whose home was a place of comfort and welcome for everyone. Her warmth radiated through her cooking, which brought joy to countless gatherings and left lasting memories for all who sat at her table. She deeply cherished her children and grandchildren, and her love for them knew no bounds. On March 8,2025 she proudly celebrated 20 years cancer-free. Maria also held a profound and unshakable love for her island, Puerto Rico — a place that was forever in her heart. A proud Puerto Rican through and through - WEPA!!! Her presence, love, and spirit will be missed deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
