Margaret L. Shinkle nee Newman, age 87, of Hammond, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016. Loving wife for 59 years to late George F. Shinkle. Beloved mother of Ronald (Patti Taylor) Shinkle, Wayne (Linda nee Dittrich) Shinkle, SR, Troy (Susan Kelley) Shinkle and, the late Linda Hillman. Cherished daughter of late Vernon U. Newman and late Alma K. Mackey nee Burrell. Devoted sister of the late Vernon (late Wanda) Newman, late William (late Sandy) Newman, late Frank (Janette) Newman, late Shirley (late Doug) Yeary and Carla Jane (late Robert) Layton. Proud grandmother of Ronald (Cheri) Shinkle, Robert (Dana) Shinkle, Wayne (Heidi) Shinkle, JR, Elizabeth (late Devin) Hatley, Ryan (LeAnn) Shinkle, Sherry Hillman, John (Christina) Hillman, Danielle (Ryan) Andreas and Zackery Shinkle. Dearest great-grandmother of 21. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Margaret was born May 11, 1928, in Whiting, IN. to Vernon and Alma Newman. Her father passed away when she was 12 years old. Her mother married William Mackey. Margaret and George were married on September 30, 1945, in Vincennes, IN and lived most of their married life in Hammond, IN. Throughout her life, she was employed at various companies; the last of them was for White Castle where she was a Trainer Manager. She attended the Free Methodist Church in Griffith. Friends are invited to celebrate Margaret's life on Sunday, April 3, 2016 from 3 PM until 8 PM at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME , 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN.
