Lucille "Kay" C. Shabaz nee Veldey, age 83, of Hammond, passed away Monday, August 29, 2011. Beloved wife for 27 years to the late Mitchell Shabaz. Loving mother of late Linda (Edward) Arseneau, Michael (Lisa) Shabaz, Edward (Carol) Shabaz, Susan (Floyd) Demmon, Debra (Buddy) Duncan, and Samuel Shabaz. Cherished sister Betty (Frank) Fullmer and Phyllis (Tim) Hood. Proud grandmother of 10. Dearest great-grandmother of 7. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Devoted significant other to the late Coronal Jack M. Fetman. Kay was very active in her church and was a vocalist around Chicago. She was a fan and member of the Lyric Opera and a big Cub's fan. Lying in State on Friday, September 02, 2011 from 10 AM until time of service at 10:30 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, 7051 Indianapolis Blvd., Hammond, with the Rev. Roger Storms, Pastor officiating and Rev. James T. Swanson, co-officiating. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary.
