Lucille E. Bell nee Fenzel, age 90, of Hammond, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Residences At Deer Creek in Schererville.
Lucille was the wife of the late Howard R. Bell, Jr. whom she married on July 5, 1952. Howard preceded her in death on July 16, 1975.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Rae and Don Simpson of Dorsey, Illinois and Jan and David Marker of Hammond, Indiana; and her sons and their wives, Howard and Cheryl Bell of Schererville, Craig and Lisa Bell of Crown Point, and Brian Bell and special friend Roberta Arthur of Many Farms, Arizona. She was the grandmother of 5 grandsons, Eric and Suzzane Bell, Paul and Katherine Bell, Peter and Kelly Bell, Matthew and Brandy Simpson, David and Amber Simpson and 2 granddaughters Jessica and Rachel Bell. She was the great grandmother of 7. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Scott Bell and a granddaughter, Carrie Simpson.
Lucille was born June 5, 1924 on a farm in San Pierre, Indiana to Joseph and Anna Fenzel with sisters Margaret Masepohl of Dyer, Esther Harrington of San Pierre, and the late Evelyn Selmer of St. Joseph, Michigan. She graduated from Tefft High School in 1942 and Evangelical Hospital of Chicago School of Nursing in 1948. She worked for several years as a surgical nurse at her alma mater and then started her career at St. Margaret Hospital North Campus in 1958. She worked the night shift her entire career, retiring at age 70 as assistant director of the nursing service in 1994.
After her retirement, she was a volunteer R.N. for the Visiting Nurses Association and also a member of a Hearts in Motion medical team in Guatemala.
Lucille was devoted to her family, loved spending time with her grandchildren, rarely missed a Chicago Cubs baseball game, and was always ready for an adventure.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN with Dr. Bassam Abdallah, Pastor officiating. Interment Elmwood, Hammond, IN. Family and friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, July 14, 2014 from 4 PM until 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to VITAS Innovative Hospice Care or Alzheimer's Association.
