Lucas A. Groves, age 17, of Dyer, IN ( formerly of Calumet City, IL) passed away suddenly Thursday March 11, 2010. He is survived by his mother, Tina L. (fiancé, Daryl Zuffa and his daughter, Dominique); maternal grandparents, Richard and Judy Fezekas, Sr. of Dyer, IN; 2 uncles, Ricky Groves of Griffith, IN and Rick and Denise Fezekas of Schaumburg, IL; cousin, Brady Fezekas of Schaumburg, IL; Grandpa Wally Zuffa of Hammond, IN.; Great Aunt Charmaine "Tiny" Brandon of Hammond, IN; and caregiver, BethMarie Hedrick of Highland, IN. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerry A. Groves, paternal grandparents, Fred and Betty Groves, uncle, Jeff Groves, aunt, Gloria Province and his dog, Chewy. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 15, 2010 at 1 PM from LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN with Pastor Scott Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 2-7 PM at the funeral home. Lucas was a lifetime resident of this area and a student at Lake Central High School in St. John, IN. He enjoyed camping at Broken Arrow Campground in Winamac, IN, riding the Harley with his grandpa and being the cameraman at all functions. Lucas was an avid sports fan, especially for his favorite team, the Chicago White Sox. He loved to travel especially on his annual trip to Las Vegas. He had a smile for everyone, the sunshine of our lives, and only saw the good in all people. Lucas enjoyed spending time with his cousin, Brady and was looking forward to his new cousin who is to be born this June.
