Josephine Garcia Villarreal Garay February 19, 1913- March 28, 2010 Josephine G. Villarreal Garay, age 97 of Hammond, IN passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010. Josephine was born on February 19, 1913 in Kansas City, MO. She was the oldest of six children. Her family moved to Chicago, IL where she attended the Chicago Public Schools. While she lived in Chicago, IL., she met her first husband, Filemon Villarreal and they were married on September 7, 1930 and had 3 sons. After seven years being widowed, she met her second husband, Manuel P. Garay and was married on January 25, 1964. She is survived by her 3 children: Albert (Sally) Villarreal of Highland, IN., Louis (Susan) Villarreal, of Chicago, IL, and Filemon (Maria) Villarreal, of San Antonio, TX.; 3 step children, Richard (Sheri) Garay of Huntington Beach, CA. Geraldine (Chris) Aurndell of Bellevue, WA., Renard (Sandra) Garay of Midlothian, IL; 10 grandchildren: Albert A. (Gloria) Villarreal, Robert Villarreal, Rick Villarreal, Nadia (Chris) L. Villarreal, David Villarreal, Rachelle (Edward) Tucker, Brian Garay, Richard Garay, Renferd Aurndell, and Michelle Garay; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Rita Garcia and brother-in-law, Lalo Carrizales; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Petra Garcia, first husband, Filemon Villarreal and second husband, Manuel P. Garay, brothers, Jessie and Freddy Garcia, sisters, Alberta Torres, Anita Garcia, and Isabel Carrizales; granddaughter, Yolanda Barrera and grandson, Steve Villarreal. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 9:30 AM for a prayer service at LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Avenue, Hammond, IN and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM from All Saints Church, 570 Sibley Blvd., Hammond, IN with Rev. Steve Kosinski officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, April 5, 2010 from 3-8 PM at LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Avenue, Hammond, IN. A Prayer Service will be held at 5 PM Monday at the funeral home. Josephine was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, sister-in-law, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and a great friend. She was a wonderful woman, very caring, outstanding and had many talents. She was secretary for the League of United American Citizens (LULAC) District #503 and was presented with the prestigious award "Woman of the Year" for her excellent performance. She will always be remembered as the "NICE LADY" from the staff at the Regency Nursing Home. She was truly loved and will be missed by all.
