Joseph R. Serbentas, age 86, US Army Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, of Hammond, born on September 22, 1929 in Roseland, IL and entered Heaven December 23, 2015.

He was a Hammond resident for over 65 years. After meeting his young wife Jean in England while he was a young soldier, he brought her across the ocean to start their new life in America. Joe and Jean were married on May 29, 1952 and were married for 57 years. He watched as his family grew with children, Joe (Debbie) Serbentas, John (Cathy) Serbentas, James (Barb) Serbentas, Jeannie (Pete) Lenzo, Sonny Serbentas, and Dorothy Renee Huppenthal (Lecil Butch) Martin, along with 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret "Jean" Serbentas nee Keddie and his parents Joseph and Silvia Serbentas.

Joe was a Democratic precinct captain for many years. He was a dedicated past exulted ruler of the Elks 485.

Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His memory will live on in all that knew him.

Friends are invited to join the family Saturday, December 26, 2015 at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with services at 6:00 PM.
