Johnnie R. Hemphill age, 81, of Hammond, IN. passed away Monday May 11, 2009. He is survived by three children; Angela (Mike) Dial, Bobby Hemphill, and Rodney (Melinda) Hemphill, one brother; Cecil Hemphill, nine grandchildren; Jessica, Cheryl, Amanda, Abigail, Brandon, and Breanna Hemphill, Patricia and Christopher Finley, and Becky Schmidt, six great-grandchildren; Samantha and Madison Hemphill, Connor Matthew Strange, Darrell and Devin Schmidt, and Mickey Brown, numerous nieces and nephews, longtime family friends Alfie and jonie. Johnnie is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife; Shirley Joyce Hemphill, parents; Charles Wayne and Hattie Hemphill, five brothers; Brainerd, Charles, Sudie, Billy and Pratt, and two sisters; Ruth and Elizabeth. Funeral Service will be held Thursday May 14, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at LaHayne Funeral Home 6955 Southeastern Ave. Hammond, IN with Pastor Steve Jones Officiating; burial to follow at Memory Lane Cemetery Schererville; IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hospice of the Calumet Area 600 Superior Ave. Munster, IN 46321. Johnnie was retired from Queen Ann Candy Co. with 25 years service, and a loving Father and Grandfather that will be deeply missed.
