John L. Sorensen, age 84, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 11, 2015. Beloved husband for 46 years to Betty Jean Sorensen nee Sprecher. Loving father of Valerie (Craig) Finch, John (Bonnie) Sorensen, JR, Rick (Jane) Sorensen, Ted (Linda) Sorensen, and Dean (Diane) Sorensen. Proud grandpa of 9 and dearest great-grandpa. Preceded in death by his parents Louis M. and Martha M. Sorensen nee Miller. John was a Jazz Musician and played the trumpet in different jazz bands in the 70's and 80's. He also played in different church bands. John enjoyed working with his hands. He enjoyed watching football and was a huge history buff. Mookie was John's dog, and as far as he was concerned, Mookie was the only dog and all other dogs were measured against Mookie. John enjoyed family time and time with his grandchildren. He favored cookouts, board games, and movies. John was a friend to many and a patriot to his county. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 1:30 PM at the Family Harvest Church, 18500 – 92nd Avenue, Tinley Park, Illinois 60487 with Pastor Nancy Shannon officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME , 6955 Southeastern Avenue, Hammond, Indiana.
