John L. Kohlbecker, age 92, US Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII and a retired Major in the US Air Force, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012. Husband of Lois L. Kohlbecker nee Brandt Brother of late Marge (late Ed) Gross Uncle of his nephew Kim Gross and his nieces Ellen Followwill, Louisa Walthers, Rebecca Engle, Roberta Conley John was a pilot and flew B-26s and C-47s while on active duty in the Army Air Corp. In the Air Force reserve, he flew C-46s and C-119s. He graduated as a mechanical engineer from University of Illinois in 1950. He worked at Wisconsin Steel from 1950 until his retirement as the Steam Power Dept. Superintendant in 1979. In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing trips, travel, especially cruises, and the game of bridge. A Visitation will be held Friday, May 18, 2012 from 10 AM until time of the Memorial Service at 11 AM at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7227 Hohman Ave., Hammond, with Rev. Karl A. Frincke, Pastor, officiating. Interment Lowell Memorial Cemetery, Lowell. Arrangements entrusted to LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or to one's favorite charity.
