John E. Cory, Sr., age 96, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026.

John is survived by his children: John E. (Jack) & Gayle Cory, Jr., and Jackie & Lloyd Mulvihill. His Grandchildren: Amy & Tom Ingram, Tracy & Dan Igras, Jake & Lisa Cory, Mark & Allison Cory, Amanda & Derek Wartman and Shannon Mulvihill and her boyfriend David. His great grandchildren: Austin Ingram and his fiancée Danielle, Hayden Ingram & his girlfriend Brooke, Abby Ingram & her boyfriend Scotty, Lauren & Kyle Wells, Ethan Igras, Alyssa & Mike Drinski, Brandon Cory & his girlfriend Kaylee, John & Peyton Cory, Zack & Brylee Cory, Emmett Cory, Ellie Cory, Lincoln Wartman and Violet Wartman. His great great granddaughters Sawyer Drinski and Scottie Drinski. John was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of over 50 years Jean L. Cory who he lived a happy and full life with. Also preceded in death by his parents John Franklin & Nora Cory, his brother James Cory and his sister Mary Alice Skinner.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 12:00 Noon at LaHayne Funeral home located at 6955 Southeastern Avenue, Hammond, IN with Deacon Duane Dedelow celebrating. Burial will follow to Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond.

John was a retired automobile mechanic with over 40 years of service. John was also the Ranger at the Lost Marsh Golf Course for many years being able to enjoy his most favorite pastime, Golf! He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #726. John loved golfing with his son Jack and his grandkids and great grandkids. He loved attending all his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events and going to the movies with his granddaughter Amanda. John has left a lasting legacy of friends and family that not too many of us can duplicate or be so lucky to have done this for 96 years. He will be deeply missed by all those who love him.
