Jayne Gyure nee Fritz, of Farmington Hills, MI and formerly of Hammond, IN, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 9, 2018. Loving mother of R. Scott (Laura) Gyure and Dale Allen (Jan) Gyure. Cherished sister of Charles (Carolyn) Fritz. Proud grandmother of Vanessa (Jeremy) Hershman, Sarah Gyure, Daniel J. (Lauren) Gyure, Matthew Gyure and Jeffrey Gyure. Preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Daniel C. Gyure and her parents Walter C. Fritz and Margaret Fritz nee Walker. Jayne was a longtime Calumet Region resident who moved to Michigan in recent years to live with her son Dale and his family. She was born and raised in Whiting and received a Bachelor's degree in education from Ball State Teachers College in 1955. After brief stints in California and Kentucky, she settled in Hammond and began a career teaching physical education in various elementary schools for over twenty-five years. Along the way she earned a Master's degree in education from Indiana University. Jayne was a lifelong lover of the arts, particularly music and dance, and performed in dance productions for decades. She also spent countless hours donating her time to charitable service organizations like the Woodmar Woman's Club and TradeWinds. After retiring from the Hammond Public Schools, Jayne served as a volunteer counselor for the State Health Insurance Assistance Program for nearly two decades. Friends are invited to celebrate Jayne's life with her family on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 10 AM until 12:00 Noon at LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN.
