Obituary

Janet Myers of Hammond passed away on Saturday, March 28 at Community Hospital in Munster surrounded by those who loved her dearly. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was known best as "Sis" to her family and Grammy to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked for Federated Metals in Whiting, Indiana for many years until they closed. She retired from Budd the Furnace Man in Hammond as a Service Manager. Most recently she worked at The Smoke Shop in Schererville while in retirement, where she was loved by many customers.

Her biggest enjoyment in life was watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their school and outside activities. She is known all over the area and state and beyond attending each and every activity possible. She was active in the lives of all eight of her grandchildren and had a special relationship with each one. She was our biggest fan!! She served on the Board of Edison Little League where all of her children and grandchildren played baseball and softball. She operated the concession stand for many years and made the best walking taco. Her unique ability to make life easier and give her opinion was always done with unconditional love and wanting the best for everyone. She has passed on to her children and grandchildren through the way she lived her life, grateful for each day and to pick yourself up, dust off your knees and get back on track. Life goes on!

Janet has joined her parents Merrill and Gladys Dornick, brothers Gene (Joe), Thomas (Tom), and John (Jack), along with many of her favorite aunts and cousins in heaven.

She is survived and will be profoundly missed by her children Cynthia Cantrell, Michael Myers, and Pamela Genender. Her sister-in-law and best buddy for 50-plus years Kay Dornick, her "adopted" daughter and close friend Charlotte (Missy) Woodworth, her sisters-in-law Edie Harwick and Robbie Dornick and her favorite daughter-in-law Kim Flora.

She had an individual and special bond with each of her grandchildren who loved her deeply and will miss her honesty and wisdom. Melonie Roman, Stephanie Genender, Michael Myers Jr.(Elizabeth), Jodie Cantrell, Joseph Genender, Samantha Myers, Kelly Cantrell and Jeffery Genender, and great-grandchildren Joshua, Elijah, Isiah, Julian, Annalese, Seth, Tyler, Joel, Sophia, Brandon, Milo, and soon-to-arrive Ariah and her great-granddogs Wrigley and Deuce. She was a loving aunt to her niece Joanna Dornick and her nephews John (Lisa) Dornick, Jeff (Leslie) Dornick, and Todd (Trisha) Dornick, as well as her many, many cousins.
