Obituary

Jacqueline L. Estep, 89, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026. Born on January 20, 1937, in Hammond, Indiana, she spent her life surrounded by the warmth of family and friends, and her legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Jacqueline retired from U-Haul Tap-A-Lite after a fulfilling career, cherishing the friendships and memories made during her years of service. Life was an adventure for Jacqueline, who was known for her love of traveling and spending quality time with her family. She had a particular fondness for horses and found joy in listening to country music.

A devoted matriarch, Jacqueline was married to her beloved husband, Paul Estep, for an extraordinary 62 years. Together, they nurtured a loving family, which includes their children: Diane (late Bill) Sims, Paulette Estep, and Kim Estep. Jacqueline was also a proud grandmother to Nicole, Hanna, Kevin, Melissa, Dwayne, Derrick, Kristi, and Joey; and she delighted in the laughter and joy of her 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren with another one on the way.

Jacqueline is survived by her siblings, Bonnie (George) Nims and Pam (late Jerry) Ziemkiewicz, as well as Robert (late Laura) Ingram. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins who cherished her presence in their lives.

She is lovingly remembered by her family, but she was preceded in death by her parents: William and Dorothy Estep, as well as her son, Joey Wurtzbacher; grandson, Jeremy Sims and granddaughter, Brandie Malerich. Jacqueline also mourns the loss of her siblings: including Dolores (George) Jonaitis, Pat (Art) Gamblia, Billy (Snook) Ingram, Marilyn (Denven) Peach, Denny (Roxann) Ingram, and Larry Gilliam.

Visitation will be held at La Hayne Funeral Home, located at 6955 Southeastern Ave, Hammond, IN, on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will take place on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Brandon Rukes. Interment immediately following to Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond.

Jacqueline L. Estep will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her legacy of love, compassion, and strength will continue to inspire generations to come.
