Harold E. Banks, age 90, US Army Veteran of World War II, of Merrillville, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016. Loving father of Shirley M. (James) Carnahan, Carol A. (Michael) Walz, and Robert E. (Karen) Banks. Devoted brother of Thelma Miller, Martha Bravi, and Ted "Sonny" Banks. Proud grandfather of 5. Dearest great-grandfather of 5 Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Edna M. Banks nee Silberstorf, his parents Ted and Edith Banks nee Soric, and his sister Leota Collins. Harold was born in Liberal, Kansas. He retired from LTV Steel after many years as a traffic manager and he also worked at Dyer Auto Auction. He was a member of the Indiana Harbor Lodge No. 686 F & AM, a member of the American Legion East Chicago Allied Post 369, and a member of Christ Lutheran Church. Harold was always busy with his hands making all kinds of doodads. He even made a miniature model of Christ Lutheran Church. Harold was loved by many and will be missed by more. Friends are invited to celebrate Harold's life with his family on June 24, 2016 from 3 PM until 8 PM with a 6:30 PM Masonic Service by the Indiana Harbor Lodge No. 686 F & AM at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME , 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10 AM with Pastor James T. Swanson officiating at Christ Lutheran Church, 7051 Indianapolis Blvd., Hammond.
