"Whit" Whitaker, age 80, US Army Veteran of the Korean War, of Naples, Florida and formerly of Highland, Indiana, Downers Grove, IL, Edmond, OK, Waterford, MI, and Florence, SC, passed away Saturday, August 06, 2011 Beloved husband for 41 years to Wilma Whitaker nee Neuman Loving father Karen (Rea) Laflin of Atchison, KS, Mark (Yvonne) Whitaker of Dacula, GA, David (Brigid) Whitaker of Murfreesboro, TN, and Brett Karlsen of Naples, FL. Proud grandfather of Megan, Diana, and Brad Laflin of Atchison, KS, Casey Whitaker of Chicago, IL, Jordan Whitaker of Oxford, OH, and Caroline and Eric Whitaker of Murfreesboro, TN. Preceded in death by his first wife Betty Jean Whitaker nee Vorsanger and His parents John (Lydia nee Krueger) Whitaker Whit was an avid hunter and conservationist, a life member of Optimist International, a strong supporter of the second amendment and a life member of the NRA. He proudly flew the American flag and displayed the Declaration of Independence at his home. The entire family praises our Heavenly Father for this wonderful man and the 80 blessed years he has walked with us. The world was a better place because he was here. Graveside Services Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Elmwood Cemetery, 1413 - 169th St., Hammond with interment to follow.
