George P. Sobeck, age 83, US Naval Veteran of the Korean War, of Hammond, passed away suddenly May 19, 2012. Beloved Husband for 51 years to the late Kathleen Sobeck nee Spidel. Loving Father of the late Michael "Tiny" Sobeck, Becky Sobeck, and Kalee Veldkamp. Cherished Brother of 5. Proud Grandfather of Dane Seydel, Josh (Trisha) Seydel, and Max (Stephanie) Sobeck. Dearest Great-Grandpa of Aurora and Hailey Sobeck. George was a life-long resident of Hessville. He was retired from Lever Brother's after 43 years. He was involved in Scouts, Knights of Columbus 4933, and the Head Eucharistic Minister at St. Catherine of Siena. He was a volunteer with the Greater Hammond Community Services. He loved sports, especially Notre Dame. He was a permanent fixture at Van Til's. He was lovingly called "Dad" to everyone that knew him. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from 3 PM until 8 PM at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 6625 Kentucky Ave., Hammond. Lying in State Thursday, May 24, 2012 from 10 AM until time of Mass at 11 AM at the Church with Father Larry Kew, Pastor, officiating. Interment Private. Services entrusted to LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Family.
