George P. Sirbas, age 80, of Hammond, IN passed away Friday, May 14, 2010. He is survived by 5 children, Timothy Sirbas, Paul Sirbas, Kathleen Sirbas, Margaret Hayden, and Christopher Sirbas; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Sirbas, daughter, Georgiana Forsythe, parents, Peter and Bessie Sirbas, 2 brothers, John and Jim Sirbas, 4 sisters, Grace Jilton, Clara Jacobs, Mary Martinez and Emily Barkulis, and mother of his children, Patricia Johnson. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 10 AM from LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN with Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. George was a lifetime resident of this area, worked as a cook at various restaurants in Chicago, IL and served in the US Army during the Korean War.
