Fred H. Kerner, age 82, US Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, of Hammond, passed away Friday, February 6, 2014. Beloved husband for 60 years to Joan M. Kerner nee Foster. Loving father of late Fred (Karen) Kerner, JR, Daniel (Connie) Kerner, Kenneth (Carol) Kerner, Ronald Kerner, Douglas (Donna) Kerner, David (Cheryl) Kerner Devoted brother of Arlene (late John) Schaffenberger and Carol (Robert) Toth Proud grandpa of Amanda Kerner, Matthew Kerner, Christopher Kerner, Andrew (Abi) Kerner, Nicole Kerner, Kate (Ned) O'Farell, Kelly Kerner, Brian Vaughn, Kayla Kerner, Jarrod (Rachel) Stotmeister, Melissa (Josh) Petrow, and Heather Kerner. Treasured great-grandpa of McKinley, Conner, Alyssa, Brian, Josie, Jaclyn, Dale, and Taylor. Cherished brother in law of late Donald (late Wanda) Foster and Joseph (Helen) Foster Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Dearest son of late Fred and late Mildred Kerner nee Riesebeck. Fred enjoyed gardening, wood carving, and traveling. What he loved the most was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Fred was a long-time member of American Legion East Chicago Post 369.
