Emil Cheek age 93, of Hammond passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011. Loving husband for 63 years to Bonnie Cheek nee McClatchey Beloved father of Jerry "Randy" (Sandy) Cheek of Schererville and Sue (Jeff) Zart of Hammond Proud grandfather of Andy (Ashley) Zart and Chris (fiancé Melissa) Zart Devoted brother of Lucy Cheek, Cordie Towne, late Doxie Cechovic, late Lonnie Cheek, and late Bonnie Cheek Cherished brother-in-law of Joyce (Jim) Sheehan, Ruth Cox, and Leonard McClatchey Fond uncle of numerous nieces and nephews Emil attended The Gate (Formerly Hammond First A/G) where he was an usher and worked in the soup kitchen for many years. He retired from LTV Steel with 33 years of service. He was a crossing guard with the city of Hammond for many years. One of his favorite pastimes was watching his grandsons play football and baseball. He was a WWII veteran where he served in the Philippines in Luzon. Emil was a kind, loving man who never said an unkind word about anyone. Lying in state Tuesday, June 28, 2011 from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM at The Gate, 5670 Sohl Ave., Hammond with Pastor J. Calaway, officiating. Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, June 27, 2011 from 2 PM until 8 PM at LaHAYNE FUNERAL HOME, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond.
