Obituary

Eleanor Emily Zaranka nee Barzda, 90 years old, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26th 2017 in Bloomington, Indiana. Eleanor was the wife of late Dr. Edmund Zaranka, mother of Nancy (late Michael) Woolery and late Tom Zaranka, grandmother of Kara (Marco) Leon and Ryan Woolery, sister of Frances (late Joseph) Gambino, Phyllis (late Ronald) Wicinski, and late Edward Barzda, daughter of late Felix and late Anna Barzda, aunt of Sheryl Wissmann and Jill (Steve) Schamberger and great aunt of Lauren Wissman and Eric Schamberger. Eleanor was born August 3rd, 1926 in Calumet City, Illinois. Eleanor is a graduate of Thorton Fractional North High School. She worked as a bookkeeper until she married and had children. She then worked part time as a bookkeeper for her husband's optometry practice and with children doing visual training therapy. Eleanor was very active in volunteering. She delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years. Eleanor was a girl scout leader while her daughter Nancy was a girl scout. She was active in the St. Catherine of Sienna Rosary Society and participated in other volunteer opportunities with her church. Eleanor was President of the Hessville Lady Lions Club who met regularly to help the local community. Eleanor was very artistic and enjoyed making ceramics, painting and crafts. She loved to cook for family and friends and host dinner parties. Eleanor enjoyed traveling with her husband and was part of the Sandridge Travel Club with friends after her husband passed. Eleanor celebrated the last year of her life at Stonecroft Health Campus in Bloomington, IN and especially enjoyed the family brunches and Friday happy hours. Eleanor will be missed for her compassion, kindness and strong will. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the IU Health Hospice House, 2810 South Deborah Drive, Bloomington, Indiana.
