Edward J. Shirley, age 86, of Schererville, IN passed away on Monday, August 10, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon K. Shirley, in 1999. Ed enjoyed the company of his friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 10 AM from LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN with Dr. Eric Stumpf officiating. Burial will follow at Concordia Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 9 AM until time of services at the funeral home. Ed was a lifetime resident of this area, served in the Army Air Corps for 3 years during WW 2 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and retired from Amoco Oil Co after 38 years of service. He was a lifetime and faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Munster, IN. Ed graduated from Hammond Tech High School and enjoyed woodworking.
